DURHAM, N.C. - ncarol.com -- The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Durham, Orange, & Chatham (DOC) Counties takes tremendous pride in announcing that Granite Charter Academy has been approved to open an innovative K-12, career-focused public charter school in Chatham County.
Granite Charter Academy, a tuition-free public charter school, will be the first of its kind to offer a comprehensive program from Kindergarten through 12th grade that provides a combination of college preparatory curriculum with greatly enhanced access to technical skill development designed to improve employability outcomes in industries that are critically short on staffing. This includes STEM-related fields, renewable energy, building and construction, and other areas as directed by future community interest. This foundation will help students build on their developing interests and abilities, allowing access to colleges and corporations that support their career pathways prior to high school graduation. Granite Charter Academy will provide unprecedented options, not only supporting traditional college-bound students in achieving their personal and professional goals in post-secondary education but also offering students a viable career pathway without incurring student debt or the need to travel from their hometown.

Granite Charter Academy aims to become the first high-performing, career-minded K-12 charter school in the region, producing a workforce-ready, highly skilled group of graduates to meet the ever-growing demand for skilled workers in their community. The academy will partner with local businesses, colleges, and organizations, contributing to the continued growth of Chatham County, a region also known as the Silicon Valley of the Southeast.
"We want to thank all of our founding board members for their commitment to bringing this school from vision to fruition," said Holly Fraccaro, CEO of the HBA DOC. "We also thank our business and community partners who have pledged to support Granite Charter Academy students, the NC Charter School Review Board for believing in our mission, and Alliance Education Services for their tireless efforts in advocating for and working with the founding board from its initial application to its final approval. We look forward to furthering our community outreach and we will begin hosting parent information sessions shortly."
