Why Was This Not Already Happening Is Our Question to Executive Director Michelle Knapp
STATESVILLE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- David Nolen, the new Shelter Manager at Fifth Street Ministries, and Desire McQuain, the caring and dedicated Data Entry Clerk, (although that title does not seem fitting) have taken it upon themselves to go above and beyond in supporting the homeless community. Recognizing the urgent need for basic necessities among those living in tents, and knowing that most of the tent residents do not go to the shelter for meals, Desire asked David permission to bring necessities to the tent communities and he immediately jumped on board. Together they have initiated a new outreach aimed at providing essentials such as water, toiletries, and food boxes to those in need on a weekly basis. Their compassion and proactive approach highlight the importance of community support and kindness in addressing the challenges faced by the homeless.

By stepping up to create this outreach, David and Desire are demonstrating the power of empathy and taking tangible actions to make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Their efforts not only provide essential supplies to those living in tents but also serve as a reminder of the importance of looking out for one another and offering support where it is needed most. Their initiative serves as an inspiration to others and showcases the impact that small acts of kindness can have on the community as a whole.
As David and Desire work tirelessly to bring much-needed change at the shelter and resources to those experiencing homelessness, they embody the values of compassion, understanding, and selflessness. Their dedication to helping others serves as a shining example of the difference that individuals can make when they come together to support those in need. Through their outreach efforts, they are not only providing physical aid but also spreading hope and showcasing the power of human connection in creating a more caring and inclusive society.
While case managers from the shelter's Path House visit the tent communities weekly, they do nothing more than ask tent residents how they are. We are left wondering why it took a Data Entry Clerk and a someone new to the position of Shelter Manager to realize this need. That is our question to Executive Director Michelle Knapp.
