Charlotte Parkinson's Symposium Presents The Latest Research, Treatment, & Therapies
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Parkinson Association of the Carolinas (PAC) is hosting its 7th signature "Caring for Parkinson's - Caring for You" Symposium - an event geared toward individuals living with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their care partners. Join us on Saturday, September 11th, 2021, from 8:30 AM until 2:00 PM. at Calvary Church (5801 Pineville-Matthews Road Charlotte, NC 28226) to learn more about living with and caring for those with Parkinson's disease.
Attendees will hear a presentation on the latest developments in Parkinson's Disease (PD) research and treatment, facilitated by Keynote Speaker Dr. Jessica Tate, Movement Disorder Neurology Specialist at Wake Forest Baptist Health. There will also be a session on Caring for the Caregiver, as well as breakout sessions on Dysphasia, Neuro Optometry, and Sleep Medicine.
The Symposium offers an opportunity to learn more about PAC's in-person and virtual support groups, movement therapy programs, PD related resources, and educational opportunities. It also provides an excellent opportunity to meet with prominent medical professionals in the Parkinson's community, pharmaceutical companies offering various medications and treatments, and others living with Parkinson's disease.

"With our signature symposia, we strive to bring relevant information and support to people with Parkinson's disease, their care partners, families/friends, and healthcare professionals. As our tagline says: Support for Today – Cure for Tomorrow. We want to empower the person with Parkinson's to live their best independent life as they travel through their journey with PD." Ann Marie Worman, Executive Director.
Parkinson's is a progressive brain disease that affects up to 10 million people worldwide, including one million in the United States. Locally, across both Carolinas, there are estimated to be 40,000 people with Parkinson's. Symptoms, which worsen over time, include tremors, stiffness of arms, legs, and trunk, slowness of movement, poor balance and coordination, and loss of speech.
There is no cure for Parkinson's disease - but there is hope!
For detailed information on how to participate in the Symposium, visit the event page on PAC's website at www.parkinsonassociation.org/programs-events/cltsymposium/.
