The Asheville-based producer traces her musical DNA through Motown, funk, hip-hop and artists whose careers taught her that reinvention can be part of the art.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Long before Human Error and Kulture Metrics, KayeDinero was studying artists who knew how to build entire worlds around music.
Her influences stretch across generations: Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, Earth, Wind & Fire, Cameo, Kanye West, Drake and fellow Detroit artist Big Sean.
For KayeDinero, the connection is less about copying a particular sound and more about studying how artists evolve.
"Michael Jackson taught me that every detail matters," KayeDinero said. "The Jackson 5, Earth, Wind & Fire and Cameo showed me how much groove, arrangement and personality can live inside a record."
Hip-hop later expanded that education.
She points to Kanye West as an example of a producer who made production itself part of the artist identity, while Drake became especially important because of his ability to move between rap, melody, introspection and large-scale pop culture.

"I've always liked artists who don't stay in one box," KayeDinero said. "That probably explains a lot about me."
A Detroit Connection
Detroit also shaped the story.
KayeDinero says she attended and graduated high school alongside Big Sean, years before either career would take its current form.
"Watching somebody from the same environment go on to build a major career changes what feels possible," she said.
Today, KayeDinero's own catalog moves between cinematic instrumentals, hip-hop influence, technology and experimentation.
Her latest three-track release Kulture Metrics features "Red Sea," "Drone Pilot" and "One World," following the seven-track album Human Error.
"I don't want every record to sound like the last one," she said. "The artists I grew up admiring never made me believe creativity had to stay still."
