The Sharon at SouthPark Breaks Ground on $178 Million Expansion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- The Sharon at SouthPark has officially broken ground on a transformative $178 million expansion project that will add luxury independent living residences, expanded wellness amenities and mixed-use community space to its 28-acre campus in the heart of Charlotte's SouthPark neighborhood. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 18, 2026.

The project has secured financing and is expected to be completed in approximately 32 months, with opening anticipated in early 2029. Strategic partners include Playbook Management Company as owner's representative, Shook Kelley, Inc. as architect, Edifice Construction and LandDesign, Inc.

The expansion includes two major additions: Belmore, a new independent living apartment building, and the Weisiger Center for Vibrant Living, a state-of-the-art wellness and fitness destination designed to support healthy aging and lifelong well-being.

BELMORE INDEPENDENT LIVING APARTMENTS
Belmore will introduce 64 spacious residences ranging from approximately 1,700 to 2,600 square feet. The building will include underground parking and a first-floor mix of office, retail and restaurant space.

WEISIGER CENTER FOR VIBRANT LIVING
Adjacent to Belmore, the 52,000-square-foot Weisiger Center for Vibrant Living will feature aquatics, fitness, walking tracks, golf simulators and wellness programming. The center is named in honor of Agnes and Ed Weisiger following their transformational financial pledge to The Sharon.
