Kuester Management Group shares strategies for creating a more positive and productive HOA environment.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Serving on the HOA board can be both rewarding and challenging. Board members are tasked with creating and enforcing rules in homeowners' best interests that also protect the value and integrity of the community. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding steps the board can take to build trust and positive rapport with members.
"Good communication is essential," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "The board should let homeowners know what projects they are working on, what changes they are considering, what decisions have been made, and why. Members want to be kept in the loop of what is happening where they live, and that requires consistent communication through a variety of means."

Transparency is also key to building trust and strong relationships, says Kuester. The board should provide all relevant information to homeowners and let them know where they can find other resources and documents. Answer questions honestly and openly as much as possible so it does not appear that the board is hiding anything. Occasionally situations are sensitive or confidential, but the board can share what it is able.
Another way to foster good will is for the board to be engaged in the community. Hold various events and social activities to get to know homeowners and let them interact with board members. Help homeowners put a face with a name and enjoy casual conversation outside of board meetings.
"Invite feedback from members as well," says Kuester. "Let them know that their voices are being heard and their input is valued. Reserve time during HOA meetings for open comments, make it easy for members to submit questions or concerns via email or online, and ensure that each message is acknowledged and addressed."
