The Detroit-raised artist says Cherokee was the first North Carolina place she felt spiritually led to after leaving Atlanta, beginning the journey that eventually brought her to Asheville.

BRYSON CITY, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Before Asheville became home and Western North Carolina began appearing throughout her music, KayeDinero says her North Carolina chapter began in Cherokee.

After leaving Atlanta, the independent artist, producer, author and entrepreneur says Cherokee was the first place in North Carolina she felt God led her to visit.

"Cherokee was my first real introduction to North Carolina," KayeDinero said. "I didn't know exactly where the journey was taking me. I just knew I felt led there first."

That moment later became more meaningful as KayeDinero settled in Asheville and began creating music increasingly shaped by spirituality, place and reinvention.

Before the Asheville Chapter

For KayeDinero, Cherokee represents a personal turning point rather than simply another location.

"It was the beginning of something," she said. "Looking back, Cherokee feels like the doorway into the North Carolina chapter of my life."

That chapter is now reflected throughout a growing Western North Carolina catalog including "Appalachia," "Hendersonville," "French Broad," "Starlight," "Barksdale" and "BoomTown."

Her newest seven-track album, Human Error, moves into another kind of exploration: technology, instinct, contradiction and the imperfect parts of being human.

The project features "Morristown," "Lumière," "Geek Squad," "Become Human," "It's Absolute," "Karaoke Dance" and "Truth Be Told."

KayeDinero produces primarily on a MacBook using GarageBand, FL Studio and Logic Pro, but says technology is only one part of the creative process.

"Technology gives me the tools," she said. "Faith, instinct and experience give me direction."

Human Error follows City Girl Saved, a project reflecting KayeDinero's journey from Detroit through Los Angeles and Atlanta before settling into life in Asheville.

"Asheville became home," KayeDinero said. "But Cherokee was where North Carolina first started speaking to me."
