HIGH POINT, N.C. - ncarol.com -- High Point, North Carolina - Magdalena Lobnig of Austria has been selected to the World Team to race Team USA for the inaugural Lenny Peters Cup on April 12, the LPC Race Committee has announced.
A three-time Olympian from St. Veit an der Glan, Austria, Lobnig will join three female and four male Paris Olympians on the world team to challenge the USA national team squad in a Ryder Cup style series of boat races.
Race director Gene Kininmonth said he is delighted to have Lobnig join the world team. "Selection is made based on Olympic results, world rankings, and recent racing results," said Kininmonth. "With her bronze medal won in Tokyo and two recent world championships won in coastal rowing, Magdalena is one of the world's great rowers of today and the perfect addition to this team."

Lobnig made history for her country in Tokyo when she became Austria's first ever rower to win an Olympic medal. She made her Olympic Games debut in Rio in the single sculls and the following year set a new World Cup fastest time in the single sculls which stands today. Lobnig again raced the single in Paris finishing 6th, and most recently won the singles and double sculls world championships in coastal rowing. At 34 years of age, she is now eyeing the LA 2008 Games in coastal rowing.
Lobnig says she is honored to be selected to the world team for the Lenny Peters Cup. "I am very curious about the event and can't wait to have a great time racing with the team in the USA."
