CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 1, 2025 ~ Amwins, a leading distributor of specialty insurance products, has announced its acquisition of Nelligan, an independent general agency specializing in group ancillary benefits. This strategic partnership will bolster Amwins' Group Benefits division by expanding its ancillary benefits capabilities and solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.

The transaction, which closed today, brings together two highly reputable companies with complementary product offerings and established relationships with brokers and carriers. Nelligan's expertise in ancillary solutions such as State Disability & Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) and Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) will enhance Amwins' portfolio and broaden access to these products for their clients.

Founded in 2008, Nelligan has built a strong reputation for responsiveness, expertise, and execution. With over $850 million in-force premium and 400+ broker relationships across the nation, Nelligan brings a wealth of knowledge to Amwins. The company's 52 employees and Market Directors will join the Amwins team as part of this acquisition.

Riva Dumeny, president of Amwins Group Benefits, expressed excitement about the partnership stating, "We're committed to becoming the premier Ancillary General Agency partner in the market, delivering a best-in-class ancillary benefits practice. Nelligan's deep expertise and strong market presence make them the perfect partner to help us achieve that vision."

Bryan Herman, CEO of Nelligan also shared his enthusiasm for the acquisition saying, "I believe both Nelligan employees and our customers will gain access to resources that enable growth and allow us to expand our services and deliver even greater value to the employee benefit industry."

Chris Wirth, President of Nelligan echoed this sentiment adding, "I look forward to working together to continue building the largest industry-leading ancillary GA in the market. The future of employee benefits excellence is truly here."

This acquisition not only expands Amwins' ancillary offering but also strengthens its $10 billion in-force benefits premium and deepens relationships with the nation's most prominent carriers. It complements Amwins' existing capabilities in self-funding, fully insured, and customized programs.

Dowling Hales served as the exclusive financial advisor to Nelligan in its sale to Amwins, while Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson acted as legal counsel to Amwins. With this partnership, Amwins is well-positioned to redefine the Group Benefits wholesale space and continue providing exceptional value to its partners.
