PITTSBORO, N.C., Nov. 17, 2023 ~ UNC Health has taken a major step forward in its commitment to providing state-of-the-art medical services to the residents of Chatham County and surrounding areas with the acquisition of a 43-acre parcel within Chatham Park.
The parcel, located just south of the US 64 Bypass and the Chatham Park Way transportation corridors, can accommodate up to 700,000 square feet of medical care facilities. This will complement existing UNC Health facilities in Chatham Park and the UNC Health Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Janet Hadar, President of UNC Hospitals, expressed her delight at being part of the growing Chatham Park community. "We've built a substantial presence at Chatham Park and are delighted to be a part of the growing Chatham Park community as we take this opportunity to expand much-needed medical care for that region," she said.
Jeff Strickler, President of Chatham Hospital, echoed Hadar's remarks. "We believe that our presence within Chatham Park not only elevates the standard of healthcare in the region, but also contributes positively to the overall wellness and vitality of the community," he said.

Julian "Bubba" Rawl, from Preston Development which is master developing Chatham Park, was equally enthusiastic about partnering with UNC Health. "We couldn't be more excited to partner with UNC Health," he said. "This partnership reflects our shared vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive community that prioritizes the well-being of its residents."
Tim Smith from Preston Development added that adding additional healthcare options was another step towards building Chatham Park into an iconic multi-faceted community. "Our regional mega manufacturing sites will bring thousands of families, jobs and economic activity to this area of Chatham County," he said. "And we want Chatham Park to be the top choice for families to relocate and plant roots."
More than 1,000 residents currently call Chatham Park home with age-targeted neighborhood Encore by David Weekley beginning sales in August 2023 and Del Webb at Chatham Park expected to begin selling in 2025. Plans are also being finalized for delivery on an additional 4500 lots in 2024 as part of North Village development.

The growing healthcare infrastructure at Chatham Park is part of a wide array of services and amenities that will establish it as a major residential and economic destination within the region including Pittsboro's Knight Farm Community park, a future elementary school and over 200000 square feet office retail space plus a 121 room Hampton Inn hotel due for opening soon. A new 34000+ square foot YMCA facility is also under construction which will include state-of-the art features for all ages when it opens post COVID restrictions being lifted.
The Town Of Pittsboro's recent merger with Sanford utilities has also paved way for secure water and wastewater utilities which will further support growth in area including increasing capacity at award winning wastewater treatment center The Chatham Park Water Treatment Center which uses technology and biology to treat wastewater for community use.
Rawl concluded by saying: "The groundwork is being placed for an exciting future... We are building new schools and new businesses are opening every day... It's an exciting time for Pittsboro and Chatham Park."
