Foodservice packaging manufacturer scheduled to close Middletown facility by August 2024
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Genpak recently announced the closing of its Middletown, New York manufacturing facility. One of the company's oldest running production facilities, the plant is scheduled to close by August 2024.
"For over 50 years, the dedicated Middletown employees have delivered quality products and operational efficiency," stated Jeffrey Hebert, President of Genpak. The facility manufactures polystyrene (i.e., foam) foodservice containers.
The plant closure is largely influenced by polystyrene packaging bans in New York and surrounding states. In 2020, New York announced the Expanded Polystyrene Foam Container and Polystyrene Loose Fill Ban, which disallows the use and sale of single-use polystyrene food service containers.
"Genpak is committed to supporting our affected employees throughout this transition. We will collaborate with local businesses and placement services to help find new employment opportunities," stated Hebert.

The company will reallocate production in Middletown, NY, to other corporate manufacturing facilities.
"Genpak remains committed to meeting the needs of the foodservice industry, our employees, and customers," stated Hebert.
