The October STEM Calendar offers a unique way for educators, parents, and students to connect with the rich history of STEM disciplines. Most days of the month feature a key event, breakthrough, or notable holiday that has shaped the world of STEM.
Key highlights of the October STEM Calendar include:
- Space Week: This is the largest space event in the world, celebrating the contributions of space science and technology to humanity. The dates commemorate two important events: the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik, on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.
- Ada Lovelace Day: This day honors Ada Lovelace, often considered the first computer programmer, and highlights the achievements of women in STEM fields. This day brings attention to the gender gap in STEM fields and encourages girls and women to pursue careers in these areas.
