The Inaugural Future Legal Eagles Flight School is the only national event designed especially for Black youth in order to provide early exposure, information, and positive Black lawyer role models for children exploring career options and have an interest in becoming lawyers, and their parents who want to guide and support them

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - ncarol.com -- The Inaugural Future Legal Eagles Flight School: National Pre-Law Summit for Black Youth & Parents (Virtual) is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 30th, 2021, Saturday, July 31st, 2021, and Sunday, August 1st, 2021. This groundbreaking summit is the only national event of its kind in the entire country focused on providing early exposure, pre-law preparation information, and positive Black lawyer role models for young people exploring various career options and those who have expressed an interest in going to law school and becoming lawyers one day. It also aims to provide parents with the information they need to support and guide their children interested in this path. The event is completely free of charge and offered entirely online. Organizational partners include the National Black Law Students Association, the National Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, and the Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc.

Elementary school, middle school, and high school-aged students, their parents, as well as advisors and mentors of youth from across the country, are all invited to come together virtually to take part in three power-packed days of programming which will expose them to inspiring stories, game-changing information, resources, and connections designed to help Black youth and their parents see the goal of becoming a lawyer as achievable.

Event founder, Evangeline M. Mitchell, Esq., Ed.M., a lawyer, author, and non-profit founder has dedicated her life's work to helping increase the number of African American law students and lawyers. She has hosted numerous conferences especially for Black people interested in pursuing law school for nearly 17 years. The thousands of event attendees of the conferences she has hosted have been made up of college students, college graduates, and working professionals. However, she felt that creating this new event especially targeting school-aged youth and their parents was crucial.

"The issue that I have seen come up time and again is that important information regarding the path to law school should be shared EARLY. Waiting until college can be too late. At the same time, the one thing that I often hear law students and lawyers lament is the fact that they felt that they started out at a distinct disadvantage because they didn't know any lawyers or have any lawyers in their families growing up. They didn't know what they didn't know. This event can help change that by giving our Black youth access to real Black lawyers who will invest time and energy to share their stories and impart their best advice about the road to becoming lawyers. Although our attendees may not know any lawyers right now, after attending this event, they will."

"As a parent and also as a first-generation college graduate and lawyer, I know that this type of opportunity can be life-changing and invaluable. You can see people who are doing what you are interested in and try to reach out but never receive a response. For this event, we have pulled together that village who will respond because they genuinely care and see giving back as a responsibility and contribution to the uplift of the Black community."

The summit will provide inspirational keynote speakers, special guest speakers, flight classes or short workshops, special presentations, and book read alouds. Summit participants will receive several free resources to help them make the most of the event including the Future Legal Eagle Flight School's Official Souvenir Program Guide, Summit Strategy Booklet, Virtual Summit Notes Booklet, and Kids Activities. The event founder will also be providing free resources to encourage students to write down their goals, create a written action plan, and begin to strategize early on in order to set themselves up for success later. They will include complimentary e-copies of her books The ABCs of Law School Acceptance, Creating a Strategic Action Plan for Law School Admission Success, Profiles of Successful African American Law School Applicants, and Lessons from Successful African American Lawyers. The event will end with the recitation of The Future Legal Eagles Success Pledge which all attendees will receive to print out and keep.

Networking opportunities will be provided via the virtual event platform where speakers will make themselves available to respond to any questions from attendees during and after the event. Attendees are also encouraged to connect with other students, parents, advisors, and mentors participating as well so they can create their own support groups and accountability partnerships. Youth attendees who complete watching all of the available sessions within two weeks of the event will receive a special Future Legal Eagles Flight School Certificate of Completion.

According to Attorney Mitchell, "At the end of the day, I think Black children can see that they can be entertainers and athletes. However, they may not easily see that they can become lawyers. They need the exposure to expand their ideas of what they believe is possible. If they can see it, then they can start to believe they can be it. What makes this event special is that we are not just telling them that they can do it. We are showing them a multitude of people who look like them who have successfully achieved this goal of becoming a lawyer, and we are explaining to them and their parents what it takes to get there. We are empowering them through sharing those things that they can do starting right now to prepare for the future. We are giving them practical resources at no cost that they can take away and learn from for years to come."

Complimentary virtual seats are now available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once registered, attendees must download the Whova app on their smartphones and/or desktop computers to create a profile, begin networking, and to watch the event online. They will receive a special code to access the event before it is set to begin. Registrants will not only be able to take advantage of the information during the weekend of the event, but the content on the virtual platform will be accessible for a limited time after to ensure that they are able to watch and re-watch all the sessions.
