The Agriculture and Environmental Research department provides research and technical services to cotton growers, ginners and their support industries to improve the profitability of cotton through the creation and utilization of knowledge. The research labs focus on nonwoven innovations, product development, trend analysis, modern dyeing and finishing techniques to improve quality products. Consumer Marketing conveys the emotions behind how cotton impacts our everyday lives.

In 1973, Cotton Incorporated introduced the Seal of Cotton trademark which is used on a variety of cotton-containing or related products from apparel to laundry detergent. In 1989 they launched "The Fabric of Our Lives" campaign which conveyed the emotional connection between cotton and consumers. More recently they have implemented innovative programs such as Blue Jeans Go Jean™ denim recycling program as well as dynamic events such as Cotton's 24-Hour Fashion Show or Cotton's 60-second Runway Show which showcase a range of cotton-rich apparel offered by well-known brands, retailers and designers.
