Urquhart's 35+ years in the field brings additional expertise to edge computing company
NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, U.K. - ncarol.com -- Tom Urquhart, PhD., an IT executive with more than 35 years of industry experience, has joined IOTech Systems as Senior Vice President of Professional Services.
With locations in the United Kingdom, Scotland and Taiwan, IOTech is a leading provider of edge software platforms that build on and extend the Linux Foundation's EdgeX FoundryTM open source framework for edge systems.
Urquhart will lead IOTech's implementation projects with key partners and customers. He will help build and deploy industry vertical IOT solutions based on IOTech's market leading-edge platforms. His responsibilities include developing the Sales Engineering team, leading clients through adoption of IOTech's products and ensuring continuous market feedback to align the products with industry needs.

Before coming to IOTech, Urquhart was Global Chief Architect at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked since 2005. He has a Ph.D. in systems engineering from the University of Cambridge.
Urquhart has extensive experience in middleware, data processing, ERP, integration and the application of these technologies to solve business problems. His industry experience includes retail, FMCG, manufacturing, oil and gas, telecoms and utilities.
"I'm really excited about joining IOTech at this time," Urquhart said. "I want to leverage my 'big customer' experience to help the team grow our innovative edge platform solutions into multiple vertical markets at scale."
Urquhart worked with IOTech CEO Keith Steele in a previous technology startup back in the 1990s. "It's a bit like coming home," Urquhart said. "Many of the great people from those days are now with us at IOTech. It's fantastic to be back with the team in a really hot area for technology where we can really make a big difference for our customers."
