RALEIGH, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Tim leaned heavily on his walker, its metal frame supporting his frail body. As he shuffled toward the Bible study in Moore Square, he gazed back at his old pickup parked next to the curb. A battered relic from a time when his legs and hips had been strong, its faded white cab now showed rust along fender wells.
His truck, a gift from someone in the church, was evidence that God answered prayer. But now each time it sputtered, Tim felt a sense of loss. Would he too soon be cast off and forgotten? Its engine needed work—serious work—but Tim's disability checks barely covered apartment rent and food.
Doctor appointments had become his weekly routine. Now he wondered if his trips to rehab might end. And if so, what would become of his ability to walk and enjoy fellowship with other believers?
Under his breath, his words tinged with fatigue, Tim prayed, "Oh Lord Jesus, please fix my truck."
Tim yearned for the days when he could turn the key and feel the engine roar to life. It was more than just a vehicle; his truck was a symbol of God's daily provision. Hadn't he prayed for two years that someone would help teach him the word of God? And hadn't God answered by providing a small group of believers to gather on Monday nights in Moore Square?

Drawing near to the group, Tim heard Rebecca read that night's passage: "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." Tim's spirit quickened. "Lord, this is me asking. Please breathe new life into my old truck."

Tim prayed for two years that he could attend a Bible study. When we began holding a "Jesus Study" one year ago, Tim was the first to show up. He remains loyal, coming every other Monday night. (He has rehab the other Monday nights.) But now his truck needs more repairs. Our mechanic says the repairs to the engine will probably run $800. Some might say this is a poor investment, but if Jesus gave his life for Tim—and if Tim can continue to share in fellowship and learn from the Lord through God's word—then keeping Tim's truck running might be an investment that pays eternal dividends.
