The Late Jesse Epps served as Chief Steward and Executive Board Member on the Education & Civil Rights Committee. He served as the Assistant to the International President of the American Federation of State, County, & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) from 1960 to 1972.

Jesse Epps was an Advisor to President Lyndon B Johnson's White House team from 1964-1968. With regards to the participation of minorities, students, and young people in the Government and the Democratic Party as well.

As a lifetime member of the NAACP, he assisted in the organization of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) of Central New York. He was also involved with other local, national, and international labor entities including the AFL-CIO.
