Miley Is Going by One Name. KayeDinero Just Put Her Birth Name in a Song

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Names are having a moment in music.

Miley Cyrus recently stripped her public branding down to simply MILEY as she entered another creative era.

KayeDinero is moving in the opposite direction.

She is putting more of her name back in.

On Sept. 25, the Detroit-raised, Asheville-based producer releases "Key-Air-Rah," an instrumental built around the pronunciation and history of her birth name, Kierra.

"Before KayeDinero was a brand, an artist name or something people searched online, there was Kierra," she said. "Key-Air-Rah is me putting that person back in the center."

THE NAME TRAVELED FIRST

The song reflects a life that has moved through Detroit, Michigan State University, Florence, Kentucky, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Asheville.

Its visual concept also draws from Detroit's industrial identity — automotive history, engineering, manufacturing and the idea of building something piece by piece.

"My name traveled all of those miles before my catalog did," KayeDinero said.

THREE DAYS. ONE STORY.

"Key-Air-Rah" begins a three-day release sequence:

Sept. 25 — Key-Air-Rah
The person.

Sept. 26 — Detroit WestSide
The place.

Sept. 27 — Promote Yourself
The philosophy.

"Detroit WestSide" returns to childhood memories from Detroit's west side, including North Rosedale Park, sports, block parties and Cass Tech.

"Promote Yourself" turns outward toward independent artists, writers, musicians, technologists and creators building without waiting for permission or institutional validation.

"The sequence wasn't accidental," KayeDinero said. "Who I am. Where I came from. What I learned."

ANOTHER KAYEDINERO ERA

The three releases follow "RetroArch," "Kool-Aid," "Banks," "French Broad" and "Appalachia," as KayeDinero continues moving between music, technology and cinematic location-based storytelling.

And as Western North Carolina moves into fall, she says the cameras are staying active.

"The leaves are about to change," she said. "Of course I'm going to film that."
