RICHARDSON, Texas - ncarol.com -- The Richardson Chamber of Commerce has named Mark Solomon, Sr., owner and President of Assurnet Insurance Agency, Inc., as the 2024 Citizen of the Year. This award honors Solomon's exceptional leadership and contributions to the Richardson community over the past four decades.

Solomon founded Assurnet Insurance Agency in 1986, creating a family-oriented business that supports nine families through his dedication to entrepreneurship. Under his leadership, Assurnet (https://assurnet.biz) has thrived, offering personalized service to a diverse clientele.

His impact on Richardson is extensive. Solomon served on the Richardson City Council from 2009 to 2021, acting as Mayor Pro-Tem for four years and chairing the Council Education Committee for 12 years. Before that, he was vice chairman of the City Parks and Recreation Commission for six years. His commitment to education includes serving as president of the L.V. Berkner High School booster club and PTA, earning him an honorary lifetime membership in the Texas PTA.

"Mark Solomon exemplifies what it means to be a true community leader," said a Richardson Chamber spokesperson. "His service in government, education, and business advocacy has made Richardson a better place. We're honored to recognize him as the 2024 Citizen of the Year."

Solomon is a member of the Professional Insurance Agents of Texas, where he has served on the board. He currently sits on the Richardson Chamber of Commerce board and the First United Methodist Church of Richardson's Foundation Board, where he is secretary. He chaired the Texas Fair Plan Association's Governing Committee from 2021 to 2024. Solomon is also a Tri-Chair of the Richardson Chamber's Public Policy Committee, a member of the North Texas Crime Commission, and participates in the Dallas-Park Cities Philatelic Society, Richardson Rotary Club, and Yale Park Homeowners Association.

A Texas resident for 39 years, Solomon advocates for civic engagement as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar and Alternate Election Judge for Dallas County. His past roles include Deputy Secretary of Louisiana's Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism under Governor David Treen, Vice President of Evangeline Federal Savings and Loan Association, and Director of Development at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He holds a Master's in education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Solomon lives in Richardson with his wife, Lynn, and is a father of two and grandfather of six. His family is active in the First United Methodist Church of Richardson.
