New book takes classic science fiction concepts to a new level
PIKEVILLE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- In Lost Helix by Scott Coon, humanity has traveled to the stars in generational ships bound for newly terraformed planets and mining facilities. But what happens after the new colonies are established? We find it's not the idealistic world of a better future where humans have evolved. Trapped on a mining asteroid, DJ dreams of a better future. But will that dream be destroyed by corporate greed and space pirates? Lost Helix is the key to intrigue and adventure in deep space.
Lost Helix contains everything both adult and young adult readers want in their science fiction: a bit of melodrama, a bit of realism, a bit of magic, and a lot of escapism. There are confrontations with corporate goons, battles for freedom, and an urgent desire to find the truth. Readers will be swept along on this chase across the galaxy.

Stuck on an asteroid mining facility, DJ dreams of writing music. His dad is a corporate hacker and his best friend Paul intends to escape to become a settler in a planet-wide land rush, but neither interests DJ.
When his dad goes missing, DJ finds a file containing evidence of a secret war of industrial sabotage, a file encrypted by his dad using DJ's song Lost Helix. Caught in a crossfire of lies, DJ must find his father and the mother he never knew.
When the mining company sends Agent Coreman after DJ and his guitar, DJ and Paul escape the facility and make a run for civilization. Will DJ discover the truth before Coreman catches him?
