The virtual event will bring together UNC Charlotte students, faculty, staff, local organizations, leaders, legislators, and community members to advance equitable mental health outcomes for racially and ethnically diverse populations.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Living Waters Inc, a faith-based non-profit will host the virtual "2021 Mental Health Summit" in Charlotte, NC. The event will focus on "Advancing Equitable Mental Health Outcomes for Racially/Ethnically Diverse Populations". It will be held on September 24, 2021, via zoom.

This year's summit is in partnership with the UNC Charlotte School of Social Work, Department of Counseling, Urban Education Collaborative, Race and Social Equity Academy, and Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. The summit will provide intentional space for interaction between UNC Charlotte students, faculty, staff, local organizations, leaders, legislators, and community members. Over 300 attendees will hear from expert speakers in behavioral health, along with researchers, practitioners, clinicians, health system leaders, and civic leaders. They will also engage in critical conversations about moving forward to achieve equitable outcomes in mental health.

Attendees will be equipped with the following concerning racially/ethnically diverse populations:
  • Specific strategies for promoting equitable mental health outcomes
  • Increased knowledge about evidence-based practices
  • Access to inclusive resources to support mental wellness
  • An understanding of implications for education, practice, and intervention

Joan Been, Living Waters Inc President, and CEO states, "The summit is a call to action for academia, government, health care systems, mental health providers, and the faith community to move forward with solutions that create a system and culture for identifying disparities that exist in patient outcomes, implement steps to address the disparities and are intentional and effective in its efforts to prevent the disparities from occurring."

The keynote speaker for the 2021 Mental Health Summit will be Rheeda Walker, PhD, award-winning Professor of Psychology, Licensed Psychologist, Researcher and author of "The Unapologetic Guide to Black Mental Health: Navigate an Unequal System, Learn Tools for Emotional Wellness, and Get the Help you Deserve".
