CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 24, 2024 ~ SPX FLOW's brand, Lightnin®, has recently expanded its range of mixing solutions with the addition of the 981 gearbox drive. This new innovation is specifically designed to cater to the increasing demands of the chemical and mining industries. The 981 gearbox drive is an extension of the 980 Mixer Series, which was previously known as the standalone 98 Series High Torque Top Entry Mixer. With this new addition, customers can now access a wider power range of up to 200 kilowatts (300 horsepower) and can rely on its trusted reliability even in harsh environments.
The Lightnin 980 Mixer Series is a game-changer for chemical and mining applications as it addresses unique challenges by optimizing design, enhancing efficiency, and improving product reliability and consistency for customers. These advanced technologies not only reduce waste and energy consumption but also have a positive impact on the environment while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety.

The Lightnin 981 Mixer is suitable for various mixing duties and is particularly well-suited for high-pressure acid leach (HPAL) and autoclave applications in mining and minerals operations. It is also ideal for medium to large reactors in the chemical industry.
One of the key benefits of the Lightnin 980 Mixer Series is its increased operational flexibility with a power range of 90 to 200kW (125 to 300HP) in a proven parallel drive gearbox. Additionally, it reduces mounting structure complexity and footprint compared to other drive options. The mixer also offers a comprehensive speed range of 45 to 125 rpm, with the ability to downshift to 25 rpm with an 8-pole motor configuration. It is compatible with both open tanks and sealed tanks, making it versatile for various applications.
Moreover, the Lightnin 981 Mixer has been certified by XP & ATEX, allowing it to operate safely in both safe areas and hazardous environments. Its true dry well construction ensures product integrity by containing lubrication, and its high-quality helical gears are designed according to American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) standards. The built-in lubrication system with flow switch protection also reduces maintenance for customers.
