Covid 19 And Nursing Home Abuse JT Legal Group
LOS ANGELES - ncarol.com -- Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the JT Legal Group, based in Glendale, California, recognizes and seeks to spread awareness about abuse that continues to take place in nursing homes across California and the United States. The coronavirus has compounded the problem, leading to the real possibility of further harm to the nation's elderly as a result of neglect and abuse – whether physical, emotional, or psychological.
The JT Legal Group hopes to heighten awareness about the signs of elderly abuse in nursing homes in the hope that by family members recognizing when abuse occurs, necessary action can be taken to help those victims of abuse.

16% of the US population is 65 years of age or older. Yet, in our society, the elderly and differently-abled people face higher rates of abuse of neglect. The most recent data shows that there are 5 million cases of elder abuse every year. This correlates to approximately 10% of people over the age of 60 reporting that they have been abused at long-term care facilities. Current statistics indicate that 24% of Americans die each year in nursing homes.

This figure is expected to rise dramatically. In California, half of all COVID-19 cases are coming from nursing homes. It now more important than ever that extra care is taken in terms of sanitization in order to keep the most vulnerable in our community safe. In light of this, neglect cannot be excused as it can lead to serious harm, and even death.

According to Robert Kramer, president of the consulting firm Nexus Insights and long-time observer of nursing home finances, "There will never come a time when we will return to the old normal."

The JT Legal Group hopes that by understanding how prevalent nursing home abuse and injury due to negligence is in the United States, families of the elderly and differently-abled will be able to recognize the signs of abuse.
