KITTY HAWK, N.C. - ncarol.com -- In partnership with the National Park Service, each year on December 17 the First Flight Society celebrates the anniversary of powered flight by hosting a free event at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, located at 1000 North Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
Aviation enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars for Wright Brothers Day, which will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023—the 120th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first successful powered flight.
This year's event will honor Walter and Olive Ann Beech, American aviators and early aviation entrepreneurs who co-founded the Beech Aircraft Company—now called Beechcraft—in 1932. As the 2023 Paul E Garber Shrine honorees to be inducted into the Dr. Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine located in the Museum and Visitors Center at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. A portrait of the Beechs will be unveiled and presented at the ceremony.

The festivities will feature speakers from the Beech family, American Bonanza Society and National Park Service as well as a flyover. Another highlight is the annual wreath laying ceremony by the descendants of the Wrights and witnesses to the first flight.
The First Flight Society's mission is: We tell the story of the Wright Brothers through community events, education, and the commemoration of the world's very first powered flight, in Kitty Hawk, NC.
