EPIC Fellowship Church Partners with Rocky Mount Housing Authority to Reach Teens

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - ncarol.com -- EPIC Fellowship Church Partners with Rocky Mount Housing Authority to Host Teen Talk on Self-Care

Rocky Mount, NC – EPIC Fellowship Church (http://www.epicfc.org) is partnering with the Rocky Mount Housing Authority to engage youth in a series of important conversations called "Teen Talks." The talk, which is open to teens 13 to 18 years old, will focus on the importance of self-care, and will be held at the Weeks Armstrong Community Center at 1064 Pinehurst Drive, on April 20 at 11 a.m.

"It is important to be able to engage young people in meaningful conversations on issues that they are concerned about, especially marginalized youth.," said Frank Henderson, pastor of the church. "Young people are constantly bombarded with difficult issues, especially with the ubiquity of social media. But they often don't have the opportunity to have face-to-face and heart-to-heart conversations with caring, knowledgeable adults who can help them navigate very challenging territories.

"I wish that someone had come to this community to share heart-to-heart conversations with me when I was a resident of Weeks Armstrong as a young man," Henderson added. "There was a lack of exposure to self-care. I didn't have a doctor or a dentist until I was in my twenties."

Keynote speaker for the event is Jocelin Hood-McElderry, the owner and CEO of The Connection Specialist, LLC and pastor of engagement at EPIC.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring in a 31-year veteran nurse who is also an experienced and sought-after speaker with a passion for a ministry in wellness," said Tilda Whitaker-Bailey, event coordinator and director of outreach at EPIC. "Jocelin will give these young people vital information that they can use to focus on their own health, both physically and spiritually."

EPIC, an acronym for Empowering People in Christ and communities, holds regular services at the historic Booker T. Washington Community Center each Sunday at 11 a.m.
"We believe every person has value and plays an integral role in God's plan," says Henderson. "Our mission is to empower individuals to realize their potential and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
