* Energy ~ As temperatures continue to rise in the Carolinas, Duke Energy is urging its customers to take control of their energy usage. With the first heat wave of the summer bringing potential triple-digit temperatures, the energy company is reminding customers of ways they can save both energy and money.
Sasha Weintraub, Duke Energy's senior vice president and chief customer officer, emphasizes the importance of personalized usage alerts and customer programs in helping customers manage their energy use during spikes in temperature. "We are committed to keeping costs as low as possible for our customers, and sharing ways they can save on their energy bills," says Weintraub.
To help customers save energy and money during this heat wave, Duke Energy offers a variety of tips and programs. These include setting thermostats to the highest comfortable setting, using cooler water for washing clothes, running heat-producing appliances during cooler morning hours, closing curtains and blinds on sunny sides of homes, and operating ceiling fans in a counterclockwise direction.

In addition to these tips, Duke Energy also offers savings programs and incentives for its customers. These include a free home energy assessment that provides a customized usage report and expert recommendations for energy efficiency. Customers can also take advantage of rebates for equipment upgrades such as HVAC systems, hot water heaters, pool pumps, and attic insulation through the Smart $aver® program.
For those looking to shift their energy use to times when demand is lower, Duke Energy offers a Power Manager® program for its Carolinas customers and an EnergyWise® Home program for its Progress customers. By enrolling their smart thermostat in these programs, customers can receive a credit on their bill.
Duke Energy also understands that some customers may need assistance with paying their energy bills during this time. That's why they offer Installment Payment Plans as well as work with local and state agencies to connect qualified customers with resources such as the Share the Light Fund® and Low Income Home Energy Assistance programs.
