The renowned home improvement expert joins PlaySAFE Ice Blocker's national consumer trade awareness and safety efforts.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Advanced Organics, LLC, a leader in household safety products and manufacturer of PlaySAFE Ice Blocker, announced today that Bob Vila will join their efforts to educate homeowners on the dangers chloride salts pose on one's home, pets, and the environment.
Chloride salts were first used on roads in the 1940s and little has changed since. These salts threaten household surfaces, are harmful to pets, and damaging to the environment. Forty percent of urban streams in the U.S. have already reached chloride levels that exceed safe guidelines for aquatic life.
PlaySAFE Ice Blocker contains calcium magnesium acetate, potassium acetate, and water: ingredients that are safe for pets, homes, and our planet. These ingredients, used in aviation for decades, outperform chloride salts against snow, price, and safety.
"It is a great spotlight to this important message," says Mitch Vestal, President of PlaySAFE. "Bob brings a unique perspective to how chloride salts affect decking material, concrete, and vegetation around the home. He's also teaching us a greater appreciation of our product's environmental benefits – especially as it relates to freshwater pollution by those chloride salts."

"Ice melts have been a necessary evil for those that live in snow and ice country." said Bob Vila. "For decades I've seen first-hand the damage chloride salts cause to homes and properties. This PlaySAFE product is a game-changer for those that want to spend less time and money cleaning up after a storm. And it's a bigger game-changer for those that wish to protect their pets, property and our environment from chloride pollution."
It takes only one teaspoon of chloride salt to permanently pollute 5 gallons of freshwater meaning that each 50-pound bag of ice melt will ruin 10,000 gallons of freshwater. Over the course of one year, the industry will apply, on average, 20,000,000 pounds of ice melt – none of whichever dissolves. Instead, it is a poison that remains in the environment.
"Vila has earned the admiration and trust of millions of viewers as the pioneer of the do-it-yourself home improvement industry," said Vestal. "His involvement demonstrates his belief in the product and the need to educate consumers on a process that has long been antiquated and is misleading."
