Celebrating four decades of continuous leadership, nonprofit partnership, and a future focused on growth and expanded client impact
RALEIGH, N.C. - ncarol.com -- IMI Association Executives Inc. (IMI) is celebrating 40 years of service to nonprofit organizations, marking a milestone anniversary in May 2026 that reflects both longevity and adaptability in a constantly evolving industry.
Founded in 1986 as InfoMarketing Inc. by Barbara W. Short, the company began as a marketing communications firm serving trade associations. Over time, IMI evolved into a full-service association management company, exclusively focused on helping nonprofits grow, operate effectively, and advance their missions.
A defining characteristic of IMI's 40-year history is its continuity of leadership. The company has remained owned by internal leaders through every transition—from Short to Stephanie Kernick, and now under the leadership of Linda Owens, CAE—ensuring consistency in culture, service, and long-term vision.
"As we celebrate 40 years, we're incredibly proud of the trust our clients have placed in us," said Owens. "Our longevity is rooted in our ability to evolve alongside the organizations we serve. Looking ahead, we are focused on intentional growth and expanding our impact to help even more nonprofits thrive in a complex and changing environment."

As IMI enters its fifth decade, the organization remains committed to innovation, strategic partnership, and delivering meaningful results for its clients.
