A Group of Charlotte Writers Put Emotions into Words in New Book

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - ncarol.com -- Why DO we love? That's a question that has bewildered, intrigued, stirred and aggravated people quite literally since the dawn of time. Now, 16 writers, authors and relationship experts from North Carolina and across the U.S. have collaborated to articulate what the rest of us may be feeling in a new book: Why Do We Love? When Love Works, When It Doesn't, When It Settles.

The poems, essays, and short stories in the book tackle tough question like: Is love really important? What are love's risks and rewards? Is love about surprise, joy, marriage, living together, 50-year relationships, lustful one-nighters and long weekends, spouses and children, serenity or a warm body to ward off loneliness?

Why Do We Love? was the brainchild of author, Pulitzer-prize winning retired journalist, and leadership consultant Glenn Proctor. This is the second book by his Charlotte writer's group, which initially tackled the pandemic and now takes aim at something even more enduring - love. For this project, Proctor also included former journalism colleagues from around the country. This book is not a psychological analysis of love and relationships, but a "gut-level" look at love, affection and relationships through the experiences of the individual writers. Readers will, most likely, see a similar experience as they read through the poetry and stories.

"This amazing group of writers had such diverse experiences around the concept of love. They jumped on the idea of collaborating again for something that is even more personal than the first book," Proctor relates. Each of the writers – many of whom are published authors, speakers, and consultants – contributed several poems, short stories, or essays on an aspect of love ranging from romantic love to familial relationships, friendships, and more. Contributing authors include: Lizz Baxter, Ty Burton, Toni Cordell, Lori Ann Davis,  Doreen Day, Jeff Ferebee, Alice Flowers, John Masson, Lori Myers, Marisa Porto, Glenn Proctor, Beryl Rayford, Kimberly Shelton, Elizabeth "Libby" Smoot, Trish Stukbauer, and Diane Weekley.

Why Do We Love? When Love Works, When It Doesn't, When It Settles is available for purchase through the individual authors or at Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/yeynhpdy
